Visitors
Welcome to Deep Space Five! My crew and I are very glad you are visiting! This is our home and as guests, we want you to feel welcome.
Please browse this site to familiarise yourself with the starbase. There are updates now and then to help you learn who and what we are.
Many ships throughout the Fleet come here to DS5 to rest, recuperate, repair or, in less peaceful times, to prepare, gear up, or stand ground. Your ship could be here for any number of these or other reasons. New ships often begin life on a starbase list while the Commanding Officer is in training.
When your CO arranges to dock and I approve your ship's arrival, you will receive an invitation to our Yahoo Group Mailing list: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/DS5IC/Join the list and look around.
What now?
A note to COs: when requesting to dock at DS5 I would appreciate a minimum of one week's advance warning - preferably two or more. This simple courtesy will allow me to tweak DS5's plotline so that you and your players can actually interact with DS5's crew. It is as much for you and your players' enjoyment of a stay at DS5 as it is for me to organise my players to recieve you.

To players: there are a few things to know and to do when visiting Deep Space Five. I hope the following outline will serve to help all our visitors!
About us!
Deep Space Five is an Actively Staffed Player Sim. We are just like your ship, only a station. We have crew members who play characters who are in a plot and writing posts to develop character and story. When you come in, this is what you will see. You will be posting to our list. Please respect us and our station; it is our home. You would not want us abusing your ship, nor do we wish to be represented improperly in your posts.
You must be docked at Deep Space Five in order to say your ship is there. You may NEVER use DS5 in your plot lines without actually being docked or had permission to be actively involved in our posts. To put this in perspective, it would be like DS5 writing that your ship is in the system and making it do as we wished, without you ever knowing.
What is expected of you?
Visitors are encouraged to post on the starbase! However, with several dozen people on the list, you can imagine how quickly the emails can become clutter.
Post titling :
Visitors are REQUIRED to put the name of their ship in the subject line of their post. If a visiting player fails to do so, Their CO will be contacted off list about the problem. The reason this is so serious, is that the players of DS5's first priority is their own crew mates. They should be able to differentiate their own posts from visitors' posts at a glance in order to prioritize. Likewise, this should be true for the visiting ships- their first priority is their own crew mates. So seeing what ship the post is from in the title will help everyone.
But what if you want the attention of the base crew?
The Base staff are not be required to read your emails, however, they are encouraged to! Most make great efforts to include our guests in our story lines. So if you need their attention, it's suggested that you contact the individual off list at their email address.
So in short, your titles should look like the following examples:
[USS Jabberwocky] hanging on by a prayer
USS Bingo, Mr celophane,
(USS Lollipop) Quite the Sucker #58
Please follow whatever posting format your CO requests of you, the only change in your MO is that your ship name must apear at the begining of the post title.
Laying down the Law :
All OOC notes should be sent to your own ship's list, notes about LOAs or comments about a post or questions for your CO (etc) should NEVER be sent to the DS5 list as its own email. You can imagine how cluttered a list can get when several dozen people populate it and your OOC note about your vacation or upcoming LOA or opinion on something, while certainly interesting, may not apply to everyone on the list, so it's best to keep conversation OOC to a minimum on the station mailing list. Comments in the OFF section of your posts are permissible. Any spam will not be tolerated.
Who's driving this whirling top in the dark?
The Deep Space Five CO is the GM while your ship is docked. The GM has the right to recall or make corrections to any posts made to the DS5 list. The GM has the right to remove any player from the list.
If you have a problem with the GM or anything else on DS5, speak with your CO and be sure to follow the CoC properly. NEVER argue with the GM on the posting list. It will not go well for you.
The passage of IC time on Deep Space Five:
Deep Space Five runs on Station Days. While you're posting you should use a time and location stamp on your post. It is not required, however it is strongly encouraged. This helps all of the many players on the station connect their stories and improves interaction while cutting down on confusion and the evil "plot split".
*NEVER Advance to the next Station Day without the permission of the GM. Only the GM has the right to move the station into the following day. All players on all sims may back post into past missions or past station days or post at any hour during the current station day.
The single most important thing!
HAVE FUN! If you fail at that then gosh darnit, go back and try again!
Captain Tasha Tahir
Commanding Officer
Deep Space Five
