History:
Grarg was born to be an engineer. Growing up on Tellar Prime, he could often be found tinkering with machines, often ones that he’d “borrow” from his father’s Workshop. Garn, Grarg’s father was a repairman on Tellar, and would often take Grarg to his workshop so that he could keep an eye on him. It was during these early years that Grarg discovered his passion for fixing broken things, and when he wasn’t at school, he’d spend hours at his father’s workshop.

Grarg’s schooling was typical for a Tellarite, but he was a bit more stubborn and prideful than the rest of the students. This would often lead to him getting into trouble, and as such his education soon suffered. However, he did manage to graduate, but only just. He didn’t care much though, as he knew what he wanted to do once he’d finished with school.

At the age of 17, with his education complete, Grarg went to the nearest port and signed on with the first freighter that would have him. The Bargnor was your typical Tellarite Freighter; badly in need of repair. Grarg was put down in the engine room, and made one of the Engineers Mate’s. His early duties included fetching and carrying, and generally trying to keep the place tidy.

The Bargnor wasn’t the most successful freighter, and the captain struggled to keep it running. Often the ship would be sat in some space dock, waiting for its next cargo run. It was during these times, times spent in too many bars that Grarg discovered the delights of alcohol. The crew would often drink the time away whilst waiting for cargo, and usually they’d end up reporting for duty a little worse for wear.

During his thirteen years service aboard the Bargnor, Grarg became quite fond of the vessel, and was soon one of the main reasons that it kept going. However, he didn’t like the captain, in fact, none of the crew did. They all got paid a meagre wage, relying on freight bonuses to boost their salary. Sadly they hardly ever got any, and they all blamed the captain for this.

In 2377 the Bargnor’s captain, having gambled away most of his money, couldn’t afford the docking fees at a Klingon Station. As a result he had to sell the ship to clear his debts, leaving the crew stranded. Grarg managed to get passage back to Tellar, and after spending a few weeks drowning his sorrows he began to look for work. The only thing that was available turned out to be an engineer at a reclamation plant. Working in a reclamation plant isn’t too pleasant, and so Grarg refused to take the job.

With his future uncertain he decided to head for the nearest bar. On his way there he walked past a Starfleet recruitment office. The window display was highlighting the different careers within Starfleet, and Grarg’s attention was captured by the Engineering Corp. With nothing better to do he went inside and signed up. At first he was considering becoming a non-commissioned officer, but after scraping through the entrants exam he decided to have a go at the Academy.

His years at the Academy were tough ones. He found it hard working along side much younger students, and taking orders from his instructors. Still he persevered, and once he’d made it to his Cadet cruise; he began to feel better about his decision. His cruise was aboard the USS Nova, a science vessel exploring the Beta Quadrant. Grarg learnt a lot working on the Nova, and upon his graduation he requested a position aboard the ship. He was made an Engineering Officer, and worked closely wit the Chief Engineer.

Grarg spent nearly three years on the Nova as an Engineering Officer, and thought he’d spend the rest of his career there. Then he noticed that a position had opened up aboard Deep Space 5. The huge Celestial Class Station could offer Grarg the chance to work on all kinds of ships, enabling him to challenge himself. Life aboard the Nova was comfortable, but generally routine; Grarg wanted more challenging work. He applied for the position and was thrilled to be accepted.
