ODwyer

Name: Talara Amblitsio Heral

Species: Trill
Age: 27
Physical Appearance:
Height: 6′ 0”
Eye Colour: Brown
Hair Colour: Brown

Physical Description:
The best description one can give Talara is beautiful. Simply that. And she knows it – these days at least. Her brown hair is naturally shoulder length, but she normally wears it up or in a pony tail when on duty. She is in no way a fan of the Starfleet uniforms however and will normally change into much more comfortable (and often more revealing) attire within moments of going off duty and it is not at all rare to see her walking about the ship or facility in very casual clothes indeed (often something enjoyed by most male passers by).

As is normal for the Trill she has the distinctive pattern of spots down both her flanks and – unusually given her distain for most things Trillian – she will often try to show these off by the way she wears her hair when on duty and by her outfits and appearance when off duty. She uses her height very effectively and often appears taller than she is thanks to high heels when off duty. She walks very upright all the time and maintains an excellent posture when sitting – a trait she gained from Neema who, as a diplomat, was used to being prim and proper.

Personality:
Talara is (now) very confident (sometimes overly so), but only since the Heral symbiont was implanted (between her first and second years at the academy) before which she was an extremely shy individual. Talara’s inner bookworm helped her get through the academy’s academic side, but since graduation has rarely been indulged.

In fact the implantation of the Heral symbiont changed many of Talara’s characteristics (mostly for the better). With the experiences of its four previous hosts Talara was able to become a well-rounded individual – rather than the shy bookworm she had been beforehand.

Thanks to Neema, Talara is totally at ease with herself (outwardly) and always appears confident – even if she’s wracked by doubt inside. She is able to make friends quickly and has good (and ever improving) leadership qualities, which she draws upon to good effect on a day-to-day basis. Jayvin’s influence on her often makes her act or speak without properly thinking about it. Mostly it is this which has earned her a reputation as a bit of a bitch, but this is generally unfair to Talara as about 90% of the time she is wonderfully diplomatic and a pleasure to meet – even if she finds the person unbearable.

Strengths & Weaknesses:
Talara’s main strengths are piloting (obviously), leadership, her – generally amiable – personality. She can be very proactive (although this can often appear to – and often does – slip into recklessness), but at other times Neema’s prudent attitude of careful planning before action can win out instead – and it is this influence which is likely to best help Talara in her new desk job.

The potential for recklessness is an obvious weakness of Talara’s, but there are others. Her accuracy with a phaser has much to be desired – she barely scored a passing mark in weapons tests for yeas – and despite her fitness her combat skills are for the most part undeveloped beyond basic Starfleet training. Her tactical knowledge is lacking too – definitely the weakest area when one thinks of potential command roles – although the longer her service lasts the more she learns she is still slightly deficient in this area.

Ambitions:
Personally Talara isn’t really sure if she wants to remain in the pilot’s seat for as long as she can or move up to the Executive Officers or even Captains Chair. She enjoys her piloting immensely, but generally it is a little samey after 5 years on starships. In truth she doesn’t know – and might even enjoy a desk job for a while as a change; though she somehow doubts it.

Hobbies & Interests:
Even before Talara gained the first two Helar hosts’ love of the exotic she had always wanted to get away from Trill and experience other cultures – as shown by her eagerness to be on the Jian’Karra as much as possible even during her childhood. When Neema and Jayvin’s influence is added to this it is no wonder that the last time Talara had a Trillian meal was grudgingly 6 years ago – the last time she saw her mother. Raifi’s influence on her has mean that by far her favourite culture is that of Earth – especially the cuisine.

Other than the piloting Talara’s interests are mainly concerned with mechanics, engineering, anthropology, fashion, politics and current events.

Talara’s main hobby for ten years and more has been piloting, but while at the academy she also started to play netball for recreation too. She does also have an ongoing project to design her own shuttle, but she has barely managed 6 hours work on that in the last year so it may be a while in coming. Obviously thanks to her childhood she is an avid reader yet the books rarely leave the sphere of piloting, propulsion or engines in general – but when they do they’re normally on science, or anthropology or possibly politics.

History:
Talara was born in 2357 on her father’s Xepolite Freighter, the Jian’Karra, as it orbited the Federation colony on Galen IV after an extremely profitable cargo offload. Less than four hours later the colony was destroyed by the Talarians in one of the final actions of the Galen border conflicts, but fortunately for the young Talara the freighter had been ignored by the Talarians as it did not seem to be affiliated with the Federation.

The young Talara and her mother rarely left home after this incident however as, using the money from the Galen deal, Merma set up a Grocery store selling fresh produce, while her father continued his trading – bringing back exotic things for his wife’s shop whenever he got the opportunity.

During this first decade of her life the young Talara grew to be one of the tallest girls in her class, but also one of the best in Mathematics and the Sciences. Her averages were always pulled down, however, by her languages and literature marks which she found boring to say the least – what was the point of learning languages when you had a universal translator? The older she got the more her mother tried to push her towards biology and chemistry in the hope that maybe she’d become a doctor or a zoologist or even follow in her footsteps and fall in love with botany, but Talara’s inclination seemed more towards the mathematics and physics side. When she changed schools in 2368 Talara was able to choose 6 out of the 12 subjects she would study that year thus in addition to the compulsory Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Literature and English (as a foreign language) she chose Mechanics, Further Mathematics, Anthropology, Physiology, Philosophy and Ethics.

During the opening weeks of the long school holidays of 2370 Berant returned home to his family and was concerned by his daughter’s social ineptitude. Rather than spend time with people of her own age the 13 year old Talara would be found indoors, reading books on physics or conducting experiments or trying out maths she wouldn’t encounter in school for years – for fun! Dismayed at this – and his daughter’s lack of physical activity (despite her actually being blessed with a naturally good physique and metabolism) – Berant asked his wife if the three of them could all go on his next trip to spend some proper time together. Merma, though, could not leave the shop at one of the busiest times of year and so said that he could take Talara as long as she’d be back home well before school started back. As there were 8 weeks of the holiday left and the trip was only to Marva IV it was agreed that Talara would spend the time with her father on ship.

Talara’s life would be changed by this trip – in more ways than one – before departing Talara had looked at least three years younger than she was as puberty had not really affected her yet but during the eight weeks the transformation from girl into woman suddenly begun (and took her very much by surprise).

Her father, almost before the trip began, immediately started working on his daughter – he insisted that she follow his daily routine while on ship which meant: 0530; get up, 0600; breakfast, 0630: gym, 0745; shower, 0800 – 1800 hours; bridge duty – during this time Talara was allowed four hours to do whatever she wanted, three hours working with her father – learning the family trade – and three hours to do school work or read, 1800; dinner, 1900 – 2100; Spending time with the crew, 2100; bed time. To begin with Talara resented such a restricting timetable (only being allowed to read for seven hours maximum), but as she got to know more and more of the crew (and began using the four hour free slot to get extra sleep) she began to see what her dad had been up to; and was actually very grateful to him.

After only three weeks aboard the Jian’Karra Talara was seriously starting to contemplate freighter life as her future – although of course she still adored her maths and physics. To this end her father began instructing her in piloting and simple maintenance which every freighter crewman must know.

As the freighter approached its destination Berant became extremely uneasy – as his client was a member of the Maquis operating in the Badlands – and feared that the Maquis might attack his ship. After delivering his cargo to Salva II thankfully without a hitch Berant beat a hasty retreat as quickly as he could. But his luck did not hold. As the ship entered the Badlands (the fastest possible route home and one that Berant was used to taking – even before the troubles) the Maquis attacked. Within five minutes the Jian’Karra had been disabled. Talara stayed at her father’s side throughout the attack – paralyzed by her fear and dismayed by the possible consequences of this incident. For two weeks the Jian’Karra’s crew were held under arrest by the Maquis until Calvin Hudson ordered the Jian’Karra to be sent on its way again as Talara’s father had agreed to start supplying the Maquis with provisions at a very reasonable price.

By the time, four weeks later, when Talara reached home she was a changed individual. Although only in the early stages of puberty she was beginning to look like the woman she would become, she had become fitter – thanks to her father’s exercise programme, better able to interact with people, and had now decided what she was going to do for a living; she had enjoyed life on the freighter, but she wanted a life where bending rules and running the sorts of risks her father did were not part of the job. She’d decided she wanted to join Starfleet. Her father took great solace from the fact that Talara was now going for a daily run and had a much more regimented life now than before, but was fairly annoyed when Talara reverted to her shyness and bookworm-ways at school.

The biggest change to her life was that her mother could not forgive Berant for endangering Talara and the pair separated. Talara demanded that she spend 5 weeks of every summer holiday with her father and to avoid an argument both her parents agreed. For the next three years Talara worked incredibly hard – both in school and on the Jian’Karra, which by now she could pilot through the Badlands blindfolded – and passed her final exams at 16 (when the normal age for graduation was 17) in the third percentile of the Trill population – the highest anyone in her family had ever achieved by 18 percentiles. Thanks to her hard work her teacher got her entry into the Entrance Competition Exams at the Relva VII testing centre – fortunately thanks to the increased demands on Starfleet caused by the Dominion War three candidates from nine would be accepted from Relva in that year and Talara was able to slip into the third slot by half a percent overall. Over the summer of 2374, just after her 17th birthday, Talara completed the Preparatory Program and was enrolled into Starfleet Academy on Earth for the beginning of the 2374/5 academic year.

During her first year Talara pretty much kept her head down and only really emerged from her studies to events and parties connected to the prestigious Nova Squad, which she had her sights on joining in her sophomore year. Her time was almost religiously divided between classes, study, piloting practice and exercising. During this time Talara made very few friends, but was very well known throughout the academy for her looks – looks which she always tried to hide underneath a uniform a size too big for her, but this was about to change.

After the semester ended Talara gained permission to remain in Sol for the first two weeks of the holidays and spent as much time as she was physically able to practicing her piloting skills on the Academy Flight Range. Finally, when the time came for her to return home, she boarded a civilian freighter bound for Theta Cygni; where she planned to meet up with her father for the journey back to Trill.

The journey passed mainly without incident until just three days short of Cygni. Talara was studying in, what passed for, her cabin when the ship shuddered violently – as if fired upon. Upon hearing the klaxons and seeing the red flashing lights on the antiquated Antares class, Cadet Amblitsio followed the advice of the crew and made for the mess hall – as it was at the centre of the ship, but with good access to the escape pods. One her way there she bumped into (literally) one of the other passengers; Raifi Heral, a 67 year old joined Trill who was returning to Trill after attending a Cybernetics Symposium at the Daystrom Institute. Talara had spoken to him briefly at meal times and upon meeting him in the corridor she asked him why he was going in the wrong direction; something she would understand all too well within a few hours of that moment.

Heral replied that he was going to the bridge to make himself useful and suggested that someone with Talara’s piloting skills should do the same. Before the cadet had a proper chance to protest she was dragged to the bridge and pushed in front of the helm console. By this point the freighter had the most miniscule amount of shield power left and only enough power in its antiquated disruptor to fire one shot… things were not looking good.

As Talara tried to wrestle the ship into a series of evasive manoeuvres it struck her how much better even her father’s bucket of bolts was than this freighter; while this astounding realisation formed itself in her mind the other Trill had taken up station at the back of the bridge and was trying to reactivate the communications, which had been taken out by the Jem’Hadar attack ships’ first run.

The next few moments were to change both Talara’s, and the Heral symbiont’s, lives forever:

As Talara threw the freighter into as tight a banking left turn as it could manage to stop the second Jem’Hadar ship getting a proper attack run three Federation Starships dropped out of warp; a New Orleans class, supported by a Sabre class and a Miranda class. The second Jem’Hadar ship broke immediately and headed for warp, but the lead ship had already started an attack run on the freighter. It fired twice before pulling up and retreating too.

The second hit almost destroyed the freighter it disabled the computer core and caused a massive overload in most of the bridge consoles; Talara was thrown two metres across the bridge in the explosion, suffering only two broken ribs and a mild concussion, but Raifi was not so fortunate. His injuries included a broken spine, a punctured lung and a shattered right arm. The next two hours were a complete blur for both Talara and Helar (as they were both knocked out by the blasts).

The away team from the New Orleans class USS Pwll Melyn beamed into the scene of devastation barely a minute later. All the wounded, including the Trill, were taken back to that ship’s sickbay where it was decided that the symbiont would have to be saved as Raifi’s condition was worsening despite the best treatment possible. Apparently – although she had not recollection of it – Talara was asked if she would carry the symbiont (as there were no other Trill aboard any of the three ships) and agreed. A signal was sent to Trill to inform the Symbiosis Commission that a replacement host would have to be brought to meet the Heral symbiont, but the Symbiosis Commission’s ship was tragically attacked and destroyed by Dominion forces very shortly after leaving Trill.

When Talara awoke to this news two hours later she was stunned – the incredible feeling of joining was definitely not underestimated – and although there had been a couple of complications she had not rejected the symbiont. Over the next ninety hours she drifted in and out of consciousness and apparently on occasion was speaking exactly as each of the previous hosts had. Eventually the Pwll Melyn’s group reached Starbase 375 and dropped the freighter’s complement off. When Talara woke up again she was still acting and sounding different, but it was starting to settle down and the joining of host and symbiont seemed almost entirely complete when, five days after the attack, her father came to visit her.

His first concern was, obviously, how she was. Yet once it had been established that the only reason she was still under the care of the station’s medical staff was that the Symbiosis Commission wanted her kept under observation her father’s curiosity about both who his daughter now was and what it was like to be joined bubbled over.

Over the course of the next three hours Talara Amblitsio Heral recounted to her father the story of the Heral symbiont.

The Heral symbiont was born in 2185 and first implanted three years later into a 23 year old, promising, diplomat named Neema. Neema’s career over the next 77 years pretty much defined all Trillian diplomatic contact with the other species they encountered. She remains among a group of only eight aliens ever to have held an audience with the Tzenkethi. Her modus operandae was normally planning everything in meticulous detail before taking action – although obviously she had to have plenty of spontaneity to survive that long as a diplomat. She wasn’t blessed with as good looks as Talara, but in her prime was known to use her looks to good effect when negotiating with humanoid species and Talara is pretty sure Neema gave to her the self-confidence and poise with which Talara (and her body) is now notorious for.

The last year of Neema’s life was the first since she was 19 that she wasn’t involved in any part of the diplomatic process. Five days short of her 101st birthday Neema’s worsening health finally failed her and the symbiont was joined to a 25-year-old male journalist who could best be described as a playboy. Jayvin had been a controversial initiate; having nearly been dropped from the program on two occasions, but was accepted as suitable to join in the end.

Although the joining mellowed him and helped forward his career no end (as he now had a network of Neema’s old friends and acquaintances in sensitive positions – and a far clearer writing style) he was still thought of in the public conscience as a rogue. His career was not short of scandals, but neither was it short of successes – indeed sometimes the two went hand in hand. Both Raifi and Talara credit their instinct to act on impulse a lot of the time to Jayvin – it being much stronger when the adrenalin is flowing than Neema’s wait and prepare approach. At the age of 93 Jayvin’s playboy lifestyle finally caught up with him and he died – fortunately on Trill at the time.

Raifi, the next host, was 25 at joining and already had a wife and son – he was the first and only (so far) Heral host to marry (although Jayvin, unsurprisingly, had many children dotted around here and there) – he was already at that age a promising Computer Scientist working for the Trill Science Ministry. However, the impulsive streak he inherited from Jayvin and the appetite to see the galaxy he gained from both the previous hosts led him away from Trill and towards firstly Vulcan and then Earth. He spent two years at the Vulcan Science Academy, but eventually was asked to leave as his illogical side made it very difficult for the Vulcans to work with him. Thus he ended up at the Daystrom Institute of Technology for the last 32 years of his life (although he was on almost permanent sabbatical for the last two years of his life owing to a desire to return to family life for a while – as his wife Lenara refused to move to Earth with him). His work was never really anything groundbreaking like Daystrom’s or Soong’s, but he was well respected in the field and his son Bejal Parlam has almost precisely followed his footsteps and upon his death was appointed to his father’s former post. Raifi’s scientific and mechanical expertise would serve Talara very well indeed in the coming years (although her natural talents in those areas were not exactly lacking). His self-discipline is possibly the largest asset Talara has gained from the symbiont – although again it was not really something she was without.

Despite these similarities however Talara has turned out a very different individual. She returned to Trill on the Jian’Karra as planned, but spent most of the remaining eight weeks of the vacation undergoing rehabilitation and counselling. When finally released she had three day’s almost solid piloting practice before beginning the return trip to the academy.

Once she had arrived she seemed completely changed to almost everyone she encountered. Rather than disappearing into her room only to appear for meals, lessons or flight practice the new Talara actually spent time with people! And not just standing in the corners – she was incredibly comfortable as part of a group or even as the centre of attention – something the old Talara would never have been.

As she had hoped, the beginning of her sophomore marked Talara gaining the recently vacated fourth space on the academy flight team, Nova Squadron. Despite the gruelling training and practice this imposed on her and the increased work load of the second year Talara still found time to suddenly develop an extremely active social life – and many friendships. Her marks maintained their high level at around 90% as an average despite this – and she still managed to get a good eight hours sleep almost every night.

The only real interruption to this life during her sophomore year was during the first semester when she was sitting in a Basic Warp Design seminar with the Professor of Engineering and suddenly the building shook violently. Within a few minutes it became clear that San Francisco was under attack and as the class tried to follow procedure; to head for the basement, the stairwell they were in was hit by Breen weapons fire and collapsed. After an hour, which at the time seemed an eternity, the rescue teams finally reached the class. Most of them had escaped fairly lightly: three had fractured ribs, two had broken an arm and Talara had a fractured fibula, but the Professor and the other two cadets who had been furthest down the stairwell had been caught underneath a large part of the structural wall – the Professor and one of the cadets were dead when found and the other died soon after from head traumae. It was in fact this opening which Miles O’Brien filled a couple of months later.

Talara was immediately taken to the Starfleet Medical facility, which had fortunately escaped serious damage in the attack, and was treated by an Andorian Medical Cadet (in her Second Year of the Medical Academy). This chance meeting would in fact develop into a long-term friendship and the two were only separated when Talara began her spell on the Trafalgar and Melara hers on the Sarek. Once Talara had recovered and was released from hospital she returned to her newfound lifestyle – although obviously slightly disrupted due to the raid. The only other real disruption to normality was the week of the Rigel cup, which unfortunately Nova Squadron lost comfortably that year.

During her third year Talara moved up to the second seat in the flight team – taking over the role of Navigator from the new team leader. The year passed mostly without incident and Talara would later consider this one of the happiest times of her life. It was also during this year that her father, Berant, acquired two Groumal class freighters from the Cardassian Commander of the Kelvas Repair Facility: Talara never asked what rules he bent to do this – and didn’t particularly want to know. The Amblitsio Freight Corporation – as the family business was now being styled – soon added a Boslic and a Kressari freighter – again without any discernible ‘purchase’ – to its manifest as well as six Maquis Raiders he discovered hidden in an asteroid field near Marva, which he claimed on grounds of salvage rights. The flight team won the Rigel cup this year – jointly; for only the third time in the competition’s history.

As she entered the fourth year Talara proudly took on the role as Team leader of Nova Squadron and immediately set about devising an ambitious training program for her group. Her social life did diminish slightly due to this extra practice time and the huge amount of work which her studies entailed, but she and Melara were still a common (and much coveted) sight around San Francisco on a Friday or Saturday evening. During the first semester the unexpected disruption caused by the return of the USS Voyager slowed the workload down – a welcome break for all the cadets, but didn’t really affect Talara too much – apart from giving her the excuse to attend a few more academy parties and one very high brow occasion at Starfleet command – the first occasion she wore her dress uniform.

Just before the hell that was final exams the moment Talara had been waiting for came; the Rigel Cup. The opposition was just as well prepared and by all accounts what followed was one of the best competitions in recent memory – pushed to her limit Talara added four unpractised Yeager loops into the routine as well as making herself and the other two lead ships perform – again unpractised – Immelmann turns during the loop’s exit. This forced her opposite number to try to include an impromptu “Titan’s turn” around the largest moon of Rigel VI. Unfortunately the fifth craft in his flight bounced off the atmosphere too violently and so was unable to maintain his position – thus effectively ending the contest. The victory celebrations were not quite up to the level of the 2324 parrises squares win, or Locarno’s team’s Rigel Cup win in 2368 – exactly a decade earlier – but they were nonetheless impressive.

Talara followed up this success by emerging from her exams with an overall average of 90.01%: something she would always be proud of. Talara’s final honour was to lead her triumphant team in an even more extravagant display than that which won them the cup – the only thing it seemed to be missing was a Kolvoord Starburst (which she was not stupid enough to throw in). However, as a result of the (technically illegal) Titan’s Turn she threw in she was given a year’s assignment on the fairly boring Jovian run – once she’d had 4 months off; which she split between the Jian’Karra, her mother’s house on Trill, and a deserved trip to Risa with Melara.

The year on the Jovian Run passed very quickly and the young Ensign received an exemplary recommendation for her next posting (having never been caught performing a Titan’s Turn – despite there being plenty of occasions for the ‘thought police’ to get her). Thanks to this report she was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade before even reporting for duty on the Cardiff.

Her time on the Cardiff was fairly low key. Still working alongside Melara was enjoyable for the Trill as it meant that alongside all the new faces, which she was very pleased to encounter, she still had a familiar face to hang around with. The reassignment of her to the Assistant Chief position came as a bit of a surprise after only 2 years in Starfleet proper, but she was quite happy to take this and the career opportunities it afforded her. The next two years passed very quickly indeed and Talara took to her new role like the proverbial duck to water. When a crew review occurred in September 2382 the Cardiff’s XO was promoted and given their own command and so the former Second (and Chief Operations) Officer stepped up as did Talara’s superior to that post. Lieutenant Graal recommended Talara for a promotion – and this was approved. At the same time Talara was pleased to hear that Melara had been given the same treatment and although they had not been assigned to the same post again their respective ships were on patrol very close to one another.

With this promotion Talara was sent to the Romulan border to join the newly refitted USS Trafalgar at Starbase 47 where she would begin her first departmental command. The ship had been involved in the Brotherhood crisis of spring 2382 and this involvement would come back to haunt the ship almost exactly eight months after Talara was assigned there. Commander Severin Masoch and his Second (and Science) Officer Lieutenant Qalin were discovered dead in their quarters. During the chaos of the next 48 hours two other members of the senior staff were attacked and killed. Despite multiple ship-wide searches the perpetrator was not discovered.

When the Trafalgar’s new CO, Captain Jessica Connor, arrived she found a crew where except for the XO the three most senior officers were missing. As she was not hopeful of gaining any more replacements than the junior Department Heads already committed to the Trafalgar her choice for Second Officer was somewhat limited. The Chief Engineer was an exemplary officer, but very quiet and had expressed a disinterest in Command positions as a future, the Strategic Operations Officer was the least experienced of the three candidates and had a mixed disciplinary record, which left Talara. During the manhunt she’d been left in command of the bridge for extended periods of time and had seemed both comfortable and confident in the role. Connor placed the Trill in the role and did not look back in that regard. Connor’s highest praise was for the modifications Talara and the Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Thomas Richardson, made to the Trafalgar’s (and all the Trafalgar’s auxiliary craft’s) propulsion systems – increasing efficiency by approximately 25% and, best for Talara, manoeuvrability by 12.5%.

Her time on the Trafalgar again provided Heral with some very promising reports and evaluations, but her reckless streak did show through on occasion. The main examples of this were during a short mission where the Trafalgar crew were tasked with salvaging some key components from a heavily damaged Borg sphere embedded in a nebula. While she and the Chief Engineer were returning to the Trafalgar with a component in a shuttle a Brotherhood ambush almost caught both them and the Trafalgar totally unawares. With eight Razor class fighters pursuing the Type 9 shuttle it seemed like a foregone conclusion, but over the next half hour the pilot managed to lose all eight of the far more manoeuvrable craft in the extensive asteroid field surrounding the nebula. Less than an hour later Talara was performing a mock “Titan’s Turn” with the Trafalgar as the New Orleans class ship engaged four Brotherhood controlled K’vort class cruisers. Although Connor’s report on these incidents was glowing it did state that on no occasion was the officer given an order to undertake such actions – and that during the shuttle incident she was given specific orders to return to the Trafalgar rather than lead the fighters away.

During her 24 months on the Trafalgar Talara’s most impulsive action was almost certainly when she initiated a relationship with the Chief Engineer, which would last for 18 months of that time. However, when the pair received transfer orders sending them to opposite ends of the Federation they decided to end the relationship. This was the first time the Heral symbiont had been involved in a relationship apart from Raifi, whose marriage was already established before he joined and so was very much different. Talara appreciated her time with Thomas Richardson, but feels no need to be in a relationship and is quite content to follow the wishes of the symbiont to live on a higher plain, for now at least.

After making her way to Earth she joined the Jian’Karra and her father for the trip to Deep Space Five; the first time the ship or the crew had entered the Beta quadrant. Although, what was in essence, a desk job was definitely a drag for her she knew that firstly it would be a good step on the ladder to a permanent Second Officer’s position (as she knew her time on the Trafalgar was more of a stop gap measure) and that she might well get to pilot one of the Wallace classes – widely thought to be one of the most manoeuvrable ships of its size ever constructed.
